Tiger Woods is Back, But is He the Tiger of Old?
By Eban Crawford
The world's number one golfer has returned, only to be stopped in his first tournament by a tenacious South African, Tim Clark.
Yes, Tiger Woods is back after reconstructive surgery to repair his knee, and he looks to be in good form. Tiger handily took his first round in the 2009 Accenture Match Play Championship, only to to lose in the second round. As impressive as he looked on Wednesday, he looked equally mediocre on Thursday.

With this, some of the armchair experts have started to ask questions about his return.
Does this mean Tiger is not ready for his return? Has he lost something since his incredible U.S. Open victory over Rocco Mediate in 2008? Is he still in the chase for Jack Nicklaus' record of eighteen major titles?
The answers are simple. No. No. Yes.
This was Tiger's first tournament back off major surgery and a long layoff. To add to the equation, it was match play. In a regular tournament, you can have a bad day and still make up for it as you play over four days. If you have a bad day in the match play format, you go home.
With that in mind, this tournament is not a great indicator of what Tiger is capable of on the links. Look at his first day play and you see Tiger of old. On day two, he hit a rough patch. One bad round does not signal the end of a career.
No, Tiger will come back with a roar. It would have been nice and even fairy tale-ish for him to come back with a victory, it just did not work out that way. Even at his best, Tiger does not win every time he walks out to the tee. Nobody does.
It is the same in all sports.
Micheal Jordan was the best basketball player of his day, yet the Bull's did lose games. Wayne Gretsky faced losses as well. Federer, Sampras, Graf, Agassi, all world number one tennis players in their careers, lost. Even Jack Nicklaus, the guy Tiger is chasing for the majors titles, lost.
So, the best in the world is back. It is going to be fun to watch Tiger regain his stride. Enjoy the ride. Just don't listen to those that put too much stock in his losing in the second round of the Accenture Match Play Championship. It is just another act in a history making career, no more, no less.
