There are many golf tournaments to entertain golf enthusiasts. While many of the more popular tournaments are mostly for spectators, there are local tournaments for all ages, genders and skill levels. So whether you're happy just watching a golf tourney or you want to compete in one, there is something for you. Here are some tournaments that you might be interested in.

First off, let's start out at the top. There is the Professional Golf Association (commonly referred to as the PGA) tournament which is well planned out. There are four championships and the PGA tournament is played once a year. A new golf course is chosen each year to help support this sport. It can be quite costly to attend but if you're not on a budget then this could be the perfect treat. PGA has the most loyal fans of any sport so you're sure to see many pro players on the green and in attendance.
The other major event, The Master, takes place only once every four years in August, Georgia. It's a tournament founded by a highly respected golfer, Bobby Jones. It is hugely popular and attending this tournament is not only costly but can be very difficult unless you have a friend who plays on the professional circuit.
Other major events include The Ryder Cup which is played every two years and competitors are from both the U.S. and Europe. There is also the President's Cup with is also played every other year.
There is also the hugely popular Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament. Female golfers have been around for a long time but it has increased in popularity lately. The LGPA has recently changed its structure to be more competitive; the first place continues to rival the previous year's award. There are other popular female competitions including the Ladies European Tour and Ladies Senior Tour.
For the young, aspiring golfers there are Junior Golf tourneys which are very popular events especially with the increase in young golf pros such as Tiger Woods. The golf tournaments encourage the younger generation to appreciate this sport which has a stereotype of being an activity for middle aged adults. It also reaches out to youngsters to increase golf's fan base.
