Part 1: Driving The Ball

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

While driving a golf ball might seem like an easy thing to do, it really isn’t. Some golfers just look at driving the ball as the “grip it and rip it” philosophy.  However, It's a bit more complicated than that and here are some things you can do to get more yardage on your drives.

First, you need to be relaxed. If you read the last section that should come as no surprise to you. You must be loose before pulling back the club. Do not tense up over the golf ball.

It is important to waggle (move from side to side) the club a couple of times in order to create some flow for the beginning of the golf swing. This action will promote proper rhythm and tempo.

Secondly, setting your tees higher will help in hitting the ball farther. By teeing the ball higher, it will aid in a better launch angle and cut down on backspin at impact. This allows the ball to be hit on the up-swing which will produce more carry and distance.

One of the most important pieces of advice this recreational golfer ever got was to look at the back of the ball.  It’s easy to take your eyes off of that cute little dimply orb, but if you're not watching he ball before you hit it, you will be more likely to hit it incorrectly.

You want to have a somewhat wide stance in order to achieve more stability and better footing in your backswing. When you are at the top of your backswing, make sure to turn your shoulders a full 90 degrees. Your back should actually be facing towards the target.

If you watch most golf pros, many will have a pretty big shoulder turn. They always have a rhythm to their golf swing and are never out of sync on their swing. Most of the time at least.

In part 2 we'll discuss fairway shot.
